It is a tradition I remember from my childhood. What I am loving now is that my children are enjoying keeping the tradition alive. My oldest son has been learning how to make the traditional dishes, we have even made pierogies from scratch. We celebrated this year in Chicago where we can get wonderful "real" polish sausage. My other two sons are getting into the act too. It is really nice to have these kinds of traditions to share and as my sons are marrying, adding new family members into the joyous celebration. Yes family makes Christmas.

Re: ‘I Get the Same Thrill Up My Leg’

Chris Matthews should be at least runner up every year. My condolences. I attended Hamilton College for just one year, back in 1985. Not long ago, I got into a discussion with someone about faculty-student communication, and I recalled how Mr. Kogut was always so friendly and accessible. He used to stop off at the campus pub sometimes and hoist a few with students.
Best wishes, Nicholas Corwin

Re: NPR Employees Gave $0 to Republicans

Why would any NPR member donate to a Republican party?

Re: NPR Employees Gave $0 to Republicans

HA HA! I used to own a little stock in Toys R Us, back when it was a better place than it is now.

Your example shows me that both the managers and the cashiers are improperly trained. This does not bode well for the survival of any retail store chain in these economic circumstances.

Where I work, the promo prices, under most circumstances, are calculated when we press the total key. We explain this to the customers. If, for any reason, the correct discount amount does not come off, we can void out the item, re-scan it, and enter a price override to match the price that is on the shelf label, the flyer, or the clearance item label - whichever is applicable.

By the way...Toys R Us did not exist when I was a kid!

Re: You Don’t Have a Friend in Me

I really appreciate the hoesty, Rob, great article!

Re: Eyewitness to History: Strasburg’s Debut

Having watched the Pittsburgh Pirates slug through 17 miserable years since the glory days of the early 1990s left me wondering how the Nats got so lucky.
i like this..

Re: Two Bluey Boys Run the Boilermaker

This is a great story -- thank you for sharing. I plan to convert from a free member to paying member because I simply love the direction Heritage has taken.

I still think that content creators (researcher like Heritage and traditional news sources) are struggling to understand the new dynamics of the web. Heritage has now made leaps beyond its peers, but I do not believe any have fully integrated its membership and community into their business models. Content is king; but distribution and community are at least queen and prince.

This site is a great start and I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Keep up the great work.

Re: You Don’t Have a Friend in Me

I sure as hell won't approve your friend request.

Re: You Don’t Have a Friend in Me

you are too uptight, just make friends with people. stop being a wimp.
